Description
The discrete aurora is mostly thought of as sharply defined features. But on a daily basis, living day to day in the Northwest Alaskan coastline, we taken for granted what those outside our world feel is an awesome wonder. Our skies display the aurora as a simply diffused aurora which varies in brightness from just barely visible to the naked eye to bright enough to read a newspaper at night. During solar activity, even the Eskimo take note of their brilliance and striking spiritual significance. It's at these times of crisp beauty you can hear them singing...quite loudly. There is nothing like standing beneath them with awe, goosebumps, and a feeling of total absorption. This painting is meant to show 'just another day in the life of foraging for food'.

Beautifully done, how such few strokes can create a concentration...indeed, but at least he is surrounded by warm colors in his icy world.

A wonderful watercolor. You've captured the moment.

I painted this from a photo of my grandmother! When I paint the Eskimo culture...I get transported to that very place. Strange how that happens? Thank you for your comment :)
